GB Signs’ Collaboration with the British Rail Industry

10 Jan, 2019

Here at GB Signs, we’re immensely proud of our long-standing alliances with our partners – and none more so than the excellent relationship we enjoy with the Rail Industry.

We have worked with the Rail Industry for many decades, and are widely recognised as the leading producer of specialist die-pressed signage for the country’s railways.

Our specialist equipment and expert personnel mean that any products our rail industry clients require can be produced on-site and in the shortest time possible, meaning additional costs and inconveniences due to delays are avoided.

As well as manufacturing sign products for the railways, we also work closely with some of our partners in the industry to design new signs to meet specific requirements. Recently we helped OHL electrification specialists, Furrer & Frey – working alongside National Rail – with the design of a brand new plate design for use on cantilevers in tunnels.

This application needed a smaller die pressed structure number plate to carry the same ID information as the standard size. However, in addition, they wanted the plate to be fixed according to the engineer’s decision onsite.

These signs are usually surveyed by the engineer before the fixing (banding or drill holes) is specified but due to the constraints of working in tunnels and potential delays caused to the project, they wanted to achieve it in one visit. Our manufacturing team, along with GB Signs’ Rail signage expert Alison Ramtulla, created a design which overcame these issues. After test samples were produced and submitted, this has been accepted by Northern Rail as the new standard for cantilever tunnel signs.

This is just one example of our commitment to improving the quality of the signs on our railways, and In 2019 GB Signs will continue to collaborate with the Rail industry and look to produce innovative new products to ensure British lines feature some of the best rail-track signage in the world.
